Mindsets for Reducing Stress
Every person has to a large degree the ability to control his or her actions consciously. You can set your mind on a particular approach to life. In fact, every day we make conscious and unconscious choices. By becoming aware of our choices, we can work to ensure that they serve to relax us and reduce the amount of our stress, rather than work against us, as our choices can often do.
The twelve mental sets that follow can be used as guidelines to improve your lifestyle. Practice particularly with the ones that "grab you" and gradually weave them into your life. They can quickly become a positive part of your life. Hang with them long enough and they will be you.
- My emotional stress originates from within and I control that at will.
- I do one thing at a time.
- I do the best I can about a situation, and am then worry-free about it (or "I do my best and leave the rest.")
- I express my feelings honestly to other people.
- I think and live positively, committing myself to the highest I can be; even from "bad" experiences I can learn lessons of growth.
- I treat all others, especially children, with the respect I wish for myself.
- If I or my mate (friend, colleague, business partner, etc.) should be dissatisfied with our relationship, I take steps to improve it.
- I look for the good and beautiful in all people and things.
- I am aware of my own needs, rather than those inspired by competition.
- I always have an endless array of options to choose from.
- By keeping in touch with my body and its needs, I choose to be well and happy.
- I live in the Golden Moment.
With these twelve mental sets we can, to a large degree, create our own world, realizing that a loving person lives in a loving world; a hostile person lives in a hostile world. (Take your pick.)
