 Have you ever wondered about things such as "Why am I here?", "What is LIFE all about?", "What is REALLY important?"
Well, to find answers to these and other important questions that mystify many of us (such as, "Why is a wet towel darker than a dry one?") you must uncover what your "values" are. What you really down deep (no, deeper still) BELIEVE in. And then, if you go one more deeper, you find that your beliefs rest upon your values. Okay, DZ, what are mine?? This is easy and meaningful and guaranteed to make cocktail parties die with a whimper. But it is good for you. Do you want to know what DRIVES you and why you argue with people over anything? We always argue over our values. No matter what the argument, if you look closely you will find conflicting values between the participants. Every married couple should do this exercise separately then have a sit down with the results. It will change your relationship — in a good way, in a meaningful way.
So, are you ready??
As you scan the values list below, you may find that while most values have little or no significance to you (and some may even seem negative to you), there are those values that just jump out and call to you, and you feel, "Yes, this value is part of me." This values list is merely a guide. It is lengthy and contains many synonyms but is certainly not all of the values, so feel free to add some.
How to Get the Most from This
Simply print out this page, and put a check mark next to each value which resonates with you. Then look at all the check-marked ones and circle the ones that really grab you — circle all you want.
Then, eliminate any that are synonymous from the list of circled ones. With what is left still circled, write out a list of them. Next, narrow that list down to your top ten or so. Now comes the biggie. Do not be in a hurry. Spend some quiet time — maybe several such times — and prioritize the list from "MOST important to me" down to "Least important to me" and look it over and change the order if necessary until you reach finality with the list. Next, write this list down on something nice and augment it with a frame or graphic decorations or colorize it or whatever you want to do to make it look special. Because it IS. It is YOU — and I have NEVER seen any two people with the same top ten in the same order. This will tell you so much about you and how you do, or do not, get along with others. And, of course, even more importantly is that this list can guide you in creating a deliberate future for yourself.
